Bedroom Pretty-fying

I feel that your bed should be the prettiest part of your home, it is the place you spend 1/3 of your life! I know the exact polished look I want for my own bed, but it's been hard prioritizing a part of the house that only the two of us see.

I was long-overdue touring my friend, Traci's, new condo last Sunday and I thought her bed was so pretty, prompting me to photograph it.

Don't you just want to swan dive onto her perfectly put-together bed or feel like this should be featured in Better Home and Garden? The colors are so perfect together and I kept saying how soothing the paint color was (it's called Secret Passage if you are like me and are always wondering the names of paint colors).

It should also be noted that her mom MADE her headboard. If you know her crafty mom, you aren't surprised she was able to make such a stunning DIY headboard. Traci let me know that they used an egg crate to make it extra plush and the fabric is a super soft micro suede.

Traci's beautifully styled bedroom inspired me to put together some ideas of what could pretty-fy (not a word?) my own bedroom.

I think you know what's coming...

The Bedroom To Do List:

  • New duvet cover for comforter
    • I always wanted an all-white bed to contrast our dark Kendall Charcoal walls. It's since turned out to be pretty impractical since we break all the dog-obedience rules and let our Boston terrier, Dexter, hog share the bed with us.
  • Install closet doors (replacing our current shower curtain solution)
  • Get baskets for storage in the strange little shelf above our closet
  • Install swing arm lamps on either side of the bed, like here
  • Hang art on either side of the bed
  • Restyle our bureaus
This bedroom with the shades of gray, like my own, is a pretty inspiration for me as well. I love the two pictures hung on either side of the bed and the pretty fresh flowers which I would (in a perfect world) always have on the side tables.

  1. white is actually a great option for future pet or kid accidents because you can easily wash in hot water and use bleach if needed, without worrying about ruining the color/print. we use a white duvet and towels too because of this.
