Striped Bathroom Progress

Here's a little update on the progress on my striped guest bathroom. Here's  a photo where we started, a perfectly lovely bathroom that my husband and mother-in-law sweetly painted one weekend while I was away...

...that I just couldn't leave well enough alone. I had been dying to try painting stripes somewhere in our house, and thought the walls in our guest bathroom were perfect for this. Check out my post on how to do it without freaking out.

The next steps were adding in a pop of color through towels and a bath mat and hanging art. It was hard to choose which color to add with the dark gray and white stripes. It was especially hard to choose because I love color and was crippled by all the fabulous towel color choices at Target. I even resorted to asking a stranger to help me decide between two different shades of blue. Poor girl...

I went with the turquoise -- we have a lot of blue throughout our house already so I'm clearly naturally drawn to the soothing nature of blues. The towels and bathmat at Target were super cheap, due to all the college-shopping sales. I think the bath towels were $2.50 each!

The vanity got a fresh coat of paint in the same color as the white stripes (I'm going to Wichita...) and shiny new handles from Lowe's.

I relocated some art from the hallway to the bathroom. The butterflies I mentioned in a previous post, are from Vintage Printable - such a great source for interesting, free art.  And to further tie in the turquoise, I opened up a bunch of Irish Spring soap bars to display in a jar I also got at Target. Not bad for $11!

We also got a new toilet seat cover, since the other one was mismatched to the rest of the toilet and was not soft-closing (apparently a critical toilet feature according to Luke).  Not an especially thrilling Saturday shopping trip, but necessary nonetheless.

  1. I know it's not easy to paint stripes, but you pulled it off like a professional, Caitlin! Doing renovations are always challenging and exciting; you always have a lot of ideas running in your head. I really admire your creativity. Congrats for a job well done!
