Baby Sullie: First Trimester

I can't believe the first trimester has already come and gone! It seemed like the first few weeks took foreeever - I was counting down the days til out first appointment, then waiting til the next one, and waiting til we hit 12 weeks so we could have it out in the open.. just felt like a long, slow waiting period. I was super lucky that I never got sick, just really tired. We also had a pretty dreadful winter so I'm sure every MA-resident was tired right along with me!

We also found out  a few weeks before our annual ski trip where drinking takes first priority and definitely changed the trip for me! I still skied but one friend noticed I was skiing "reserved" and used it to build a case that I was pregnant! I didn't even intentionally ski "reserved" but I guess I was being subconsciously protective, or just having an off-day...

Needless to say it challenging to convince everyone I wasn't pregnant. I tried by carrying around a cup of beer all weekend, but it was a dead-giveaway when I didn't partake in any of the fun games we play (like slapcup). A few friends caught on and a few others revealed that they knew it when we finally told them I was pregnant.

the double tests to make sure! the line was so faint.. but it didn't lie!

Baby Sullie at 10 weeks!

12 weeks! the day we found out we were having a......

BOY!!!!!

We found out the sex of the baby SUPER early... we had a huge scare when our doctor called us and said she thought in one of the images from our most recent ultrasound made her thing the fluid behind the baby's neck looked larger than it should at 10 weeks. The fluid, or nuchal translucency, should be no bigger than 3mm when they measure it, typically like 10-13 weeks or something.  So we met with a specialist and a genetic counselor (scary words for a mom-to-be to hear!) and after another ultra sound and chromosome blood test (that we had to wait an agonizing 9 days for the results on whether or not or baby was ok!) we thankfully found out that everyone was fine! It was SUCH a scare and not something I was prepared for. I was obsessively thinking about it and googling and worrying and crying so much. Luke said took such great care of me and was so positive, and didn't reveal to me that he had been a wreck until minutes before we met with the doctor again. He also said he didn't realize just how bad he wanted this baby until we went through that (which makes me cry even now). Sorry for the sidenote in this otherwise happy photo-dumping post but I don't journal and wanted to share. :)

Telling our family! We gave them all cans of blue silly string to reveal the gender all at once!

I made blue-filled cupcakes to tell my best girlfriends at Jamie's birthday party that we were having a boy.

This is the recipe for the strawberry cupcakes- the are SO GOOD- it's my go-to cupcake recipe for summer.

A sweet and perfect gift from Jamie. Amelia got be baked potatoes and captain crunch (two of my early cravings) but didn't grab a picture before i devoured her thoughtful basket.

Dexter's not sure how he feels about the new baby....and it's amazing how much more developed the baby looks in each ultrasound!
