DIY Monogrammed Pillows

As a newlywed, I'm so excited to have a new monogram and to share a last name with my husband.  I wanted some way to display our newly-married initials, and decided monogrammed pillows for the bedroom the perfect way. 

Like most ideas I have, I knew it could be easily DIYed. A quick Google search led me to this awesome tutorial by Kristen F. Davis Designs. It was a really inexpensive and easy DIY project you could do in an evening after work, like I did.

Continuing with the untraditional style of my table numbers and the overall weirdness of spending an entire Saturday creating a DIY lighted marquee sign, I wanted to do something a little different from the standard guest book at my wedding.

I mentioned in this post about my table numbers, how important I felt it was (for my own sanity) to make a list of priority wedding DIY projects and sticking to it.

 

Well, this project was the Hail Mary (look at me using football references, Luke and my mom would be so proud) of my wedding project DIYs. I totally broke my own rule and threw it into the mix unplanned and pretty down to the wire of our wedding.

My Wedding DIYs: Clothespin Skewer Table numbers

I'm going to start sharing my wedding DIY projects. They were so much fun to work on and I definitely tackled the right amount, in that I never felt super stressed. It's important, I think, to decide on which DIY wedding projects are the most important that you make, and stick to it. Don't try and do too much, it makes it way less fun.

For the table numbers, I wanted to try and cut cost by doing something a little different than picture frames and the cost of materials for this project were basically nothing.

Glittered Clothespin Skewer Table Numbers

Materials 

• Table Number Template
• Cardstock
• Glitter
• Modge Podge
• Small Wooden Dowels
• Small Clothespins
• Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun
• Spray Paint

I decided to make a skewer to stick into the floral centerpieces. This began my love affair with Krylon gold spray paint throughout my wedding planning. I went through I think 5 cans. That's a whole lotta gold as you can imagine.

To assemble, I printed out all my table numbers in a very light gray on cardstock- the box to cut and the number itself.  Here's my template!

I then cut all the individual signs out. Next, I used a small paint brush to paint over the printed table number with modge podge and then went to town with gold glitter.

The glitter went everywhere, this project is not for those with aversion to glitter in any sense. Please don't mind those sad, drooping tulips...

 

 

 

Once those were glittered, I folded in half and stuck together with a little hot glue.  I then worked on the skewers. I got all of the materials for the skewers from Michael's.

 

Simply hot glue gun the clothespin to the dowel, with the opening facing up so you can stick the table number in it. To spray paint them, I stuck them all in the grass lined up and hit sprayed with a few coats of Krylon gold spray paint.

 

 

 

And the end result at my wedding!
